When planning a travel, we all want to save money on airfare, hotel, and transportation. Here are some tips on how you can save money if you plan ahead of time.
-
Timing on the Booking - If you book on Tuesdays (50-days ahead is the best), you'll get the cheapest airfare. I've personally experimented booking on Tuesdays, but there is not much difference in prices. However, traveling on Tuesdays, Wednesdays followed by Saturdays will get you the cheapest airfares. The most expensive booking time is 3-days before your flight, and the best fare can be obtained on bookine more than 21 days before your departure. Also, flying in the evening (from 6pm - midnight) except for Fridays has the good airfares.
-
Use duffels for a personal item. All budget airlines including Spirit, JetBlue, Frontier and even the major airlines often limit Personal Item (differ from Carry-On Bag) to specific sizes and the bags with wheels are scrutiny for inspection. Please visit Personal Item vs Carry-On: What's the difference? for their differences. Most budget airlines charge an additional fee for Carry-On Bags while Personal Items are free.
-
Don't buy car insurance you don't need - If you own a car, your car insurance generally covers rental car coverage. Check with your insurance company before renting your next car.
-
Airport Security Line - When lining up for security check-in, don't just look at the length of the line but also scan for people filled with frequent travelers and business people. Frequent travelers and business people get through the line faster than people with kids.
-
Sandwich your seats - Most budget airlines won't give you an option to pre-select a seat but if you do have a choice without additional charge, you may opt to reserve Aisle and Window seat (leaving middle seat blank). Unless the flight is full, you may end up with an empty seat on your flight. If someone does end up occupying the seat, you may ask to switch the seat.
-
If you are a budget traveler, buying a red-eye flight or layover flight (1 or 2-stop) will save extra bucks.
-
Don't forget to pack a charging adapter - Most Asian and European countries use 220V at 50Hz, which is different than what we're used to (110V at 60Hz). Power adapters usually come in handy when charging smartphones overseas. Most electronic devices can power from 100V - 240V, so you'll only need an adaptor (not power converter).
-
Tips on packing your luggage - Rolling your clothes is efficient than folding them. Use contact lens cases for a small amount of liquid. Don't forget to pack a Water Bottle, which you can fill up past security.
-
Use SIM card or tap into WiFi network if roaming is expensive from your carrier. Many wireless companies like Sprint, T-Mobile and Project Fi offer international roaming services for free, while others like Verizon and AT&T offer temporary roaming service at flat fee.
-
Never drink the tap water on a plane. Saline Nosal Spray will also help you moist your nose from dry air flight.
